Award of Arms

AoA - the Award of Arms is given by Their Majesties to any individual member of Their populace (i.e., resides in Their Kingdom) that they deem is worthy of recognition. It is usually given for service to a local shire or barony, and usually people are brought to the attention of Their Majesties by letters written to Them by other local members.

The AoA means that you get to use and display the arms that you pass through the College of Heralds. (Yes, you can use and display them before that point as well, but before the AoA it's called a "device". After the AoA, it's your "arms".) You also are entitled to be called Lord or Lady, and use such title before your Scadian name. When I joined a decade ago, it also meant that you didn't need to be searched for weapons when you were called before the throne, but that piece of schtick faded when some people made sure to have 15 or so weapons when they knew they were going to be called up in Court, so that there was a minute of *clink* *clank* *jingle* *wong-wong-ong-ong-ong* before they went up.....
