This story happened back when Jayme & Isabel were still renting the farmhouse on Milton Hershey's campus.
We were winding down....the cross-country croquet game was over, food was eaten, and the fireworks were about to start. We grabbed our chairs and moved to the meadow aside of the house, so we'd have a good view of Hershey's fireworks over the park. It had been hot and muggy all day, so we weren't surprised when sundown didn't bring much relief.
So the fireworks started, and we started ooh-ing and aah-ing! Hershey always tries to have a new shape or color every year, so we were looking forward to the fun! Stars, huge globes, globes that had two colors....
And gradually we noticed something wrong. There must have been a temperature inversion where the fireworks were exploding, because the smoke from the fireworks wasn't dissipating! It collected in a band right where the action was most intense, so that we could see the top third, and the bottom third, but not the middle! And someone (Corwyn??) joked, "what, didn't we pay our electric bill?", and another (Carowyn??) said, "Geez, I didn't know we'd have censored fireworks!!"
And we started laughing so hard!! So we sat back and enjoyed what we *could* see, and made up stories about what we were missing, and had a blast!
And then we went inside to enjoy huge bowls of ice cream!
